Balance Gym Thomas Circle now offers massage therapy. Tim Rogers is a full time massage therapist on the premises who has been in private practice since 1985. He offers a range of therapeutic modalities suited to a client’s particular needs. He integrates deep tissue and sport’s massage, trigger point work, Reiki, Craniosacral therapy, connective tissue mobilization and energy work to address a client’s issues.
Massage therapy can be helpful to an array of people, from the ultra-athlete to the stressed out business person. It’s is a wonderful way to relieve physical pain and stress. By opening and softening the muscle tissue in the body, massage increases circulation to tight muscles so they rid themselves of waste more efficiently and so take in nutrition more efficiently. This can optimize an athlete’s performance. As well, massage reduces stress and inflammation and encourages the body to release chemicals that enhance a sense of well-being. Research shows that massage can also boost the immune system. A session of massage therapy is a break from the pace of one’s ordinary life, away from everyday stresses and a time to be in the here and now.
Tim also specializes in process-oriented bodywork. This is a particular kind of work for those who have experienced trauma of any kind at anytime in their lives. This work integrates dialogue, imagery and energy, and touch work on the massage table. He works with the client to create a safe and trusting environment for healing. Often survivors of trauma don’t know who or what to trust, including themselves. A client can begin to identify and soften defenses in the body and so believe what she or he is feeling and experiencing. This can be a means to taking more risks and opening up more deeply to life. This work can also be a helpful adjunct to individual psychotherapy.
Tim is also starting an ongoing, weekly support group for single people. He’s been facilitating groups since 1987. If you’re someone who wants an intimate, romantic connection, it can sometimes be difficult to make. You work hard in your profession. You make time for the gym and for friends, but what about dating? The thought of meeting people can be daunting and confusing. How do you approach it all? Do you go out to bars and parties to meet people? Do you join a computer dating site? Do you ask friends to set you up? It’s easy to feel alone and overwhelmed by it all.
An ongoing weekly support group is forming at Balance Gym’s Thomas Circle location. We will explore ways to meet new people, create strategies for each group member that suits her/his personality and nature. You will be encouraged to identify and challenge your personal demons that keep you from finding romance . A support group is a great way to begin the process by being in relationship with people week after week, making friends and allies. As someone once said, “We’re not here to see through each other but to see each other through.” Everyone is welcome, gym members and non-members. There will be a nominal fee.
