How to Find a Good Skin Care Therapist

All skin care therapists have undergone a year or two of training to learn how to get your facials and skin care needs right. However, naturally skin therapists (also known as estheticians) have varying degrees of talent, technique and experience. You will want to find the best out there for yourself, someone who has a strong foundational knowledge of skin care, who is incredibly sanitary in their practices and has enough experience to always give you a good experience.

When you want to find a good skin care therapist, start with your friends. Ask your friends with great skin on who they go to for their skin treatments. Chances are they have probably found someone or some place that can give you at least a place to start.

It may take you a few tries to really find someone that suits you. Don’t be swayed necessarily by personality or how much you ‘like’ the person- great skin care is your ideal goal. Here is a list of characteristics to keep in the front of your mind when sleuthing for the best skin care therapist.

The esthetician is well groomed, professional yet can put you at ease to make you feel comfortable.
He or she (typically she) has an impeccably clean workstation. The table, equipment and skin care products are well organized and clean.
Before working on your face she has washed her hands or wears gloves.
The skin care therapist can customized your skin treatment to your type of skin and existing conditions.
When she does extractions, she proceeds as gently as possible and stops when you are experiencing too much pain.
The esthetician can give you at home skin care advice and answer any of your skin related questions that you have.
The skin therapist does not spend too much time during the session talking. She follows your lead in how much of your time you want spent discussing subjects versus simply relaxing and letting her do the work.
She gives you pointers on what skin issues to consult a dermatologist or other physician
The skin care therapist advises you on what you can do at home and what products could benefit you. She showcases the products but never gives you a hard sell to make you uncomfortable.

It may take you a few facials to find a good esthetician, but the research and time put in will be worth it in the long run. Working with one good skin care therapist that knows your skin is more beneficial than jumping from person to person. It often takes many sessions to work through different skin issues and see the results you are looking for. A good esthetician will be excited to watch your skin improve and do everything she can to keep it looking as good as possible.
