Vancouver Massage Therapy – Our Featured Therapist

One of my favorite therapists at Spruce Body Lab is Doug Petrie. Doug joined our team in late 2010- having moved from Banff Alberta where he worked at the Rimrock Resort Hotel. Well, after having one of his treatments- I feel like we’re very lucky that he decided to head to Vancouver.

Doug has a really warm personality and I felt very at ease during my treatment with him. He always checked in with me about the pressure that he was using and made sure to spend a lot of time on the areas that were bothering me at the time.

Personally, I’m a fan of deep tissue massage. Don’t get me wrong, I like all sorts of styles of massage therapy and sometimes, deep tissue is not what my body needs. However, nothing beats a massage where the pressure is spot on and deep tissue work is blended with relaxation elements. I found that Doug’s ability to find the area of discomfort and target the exact muscle was excellent.

So if you’re in need of some attention for sore muscles, aches and pains, or you’re recovering from an injury- Doug is a great therapist to book in with.

Doug’s training and accreditation are from Ontario; he is currently working on receiving his registration as a BC RMT. At the moment he is insured with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada, which is covered by some, but not all extended health plans.

Here’s his bio:

Doug Petrie, NHCP

Graduating in 2006 from Sir Sandford Fleming College (Ontario), Doug made the easy decision to move west and begin his career in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Banff. He practiced there for four years, working at the Rimrock Resort Hotel and the Red Earth Spa. Working in such an active community he was able to apply all of his modalities from Swedish techniques to deep tissue and clinical assessment, while enjoying his beautiful surroundings.

Doug considers himself to be a very well rounded therapist and continues to expand his knowledge and passion for the profession. He is specialized in many modalities including Deep Tissue Therapy, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Active and Passive Stretching, Joint Mobilization, Hot Stone Therapy, Sports Massage and Pre-Natal Massage. Doug has also incorporated a wonderful relaxation touch while he practiced in a spa setting using a variety of Swedish and superficial techniques. Home care is always given with your ultimate well being in mind. In all of his treatments, Doug’s main priority is to help you reach your goals, whether it’s relaxation of the solving of certain issues.

Doug has a very strong passion for all sports and outdoors activities. He enjoys hockey, golf, basketball, trail and downhill mountain biking, hiking, camping and is an avid skier. If he’s not a work you will likely see him participating in or watching one of the above.
