A massage parlor located on Jl Sinar, Lagoa, Koja, North Jakarta became the target of a raid conducted on Friday (2/19) by local public order officers. The officers arrested five workers and the manager of the massage parlor for questioning in connection with the existence of their business place.
The raid starting at 9 a.m. was carried out by around 10 officers. The officers found no customers during the operation.
Valentino, head of operational section of public order police squad of Koja sub-district said the operation was a response to public complaints citing the massage parlor also ran prostitution practices.
“(During questioning), the management of the massage parlor said they only provided health-massage service,” he told beritajakarta.com, Friday (2/19), adding that, from the raid, his side did not find any indication of prostitution.
However, he pledged to continue keeping eye on the massage parlor, and would take legal action should, later, the massage parlor be found practicing prostitution.

Mt. Prospect Monitoring Massage Parlor Charges
A Mt. Prospect massage parlor owner and a female associate were charged Wednesday, Jan. 13 for allegedly conspiring to extort thousands of dollars from a female foreign national who worked at the massage parlor and was reportedly threatened.
The defendants, Alex A. Campbell and Danielle John, were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and Cook County Sheriff's officers. According to federal authorities, Campbell, a resident of Glenview in his mid-40s, and John, 23, of Des Plaines, were each charged with conspiracy to commit extortion and attempted extortion in a criminal complaint.
According to the complaint affidavit, the alleged extortion victim, identified as "Victim 2," came to the United States in 2007 and attended a massage therapy school in Chicago, where she met Campbell in the summer of 2008. In November 2008, Victim 2 moved into an apartment that Campbell owned and began working at Campbell's parlor, Day and Night Spa, 940 E.
Northwest Hwy. in Mt. Prospect, which was among several locations where ICE agents and Sheriff's officers executed search warrants.
Authorities said according to Victim 2, Campbell told her that he could assist with her immigration status and documents. She paid him a total of approximately $13,000 from money she earned at the spa and money sent to her by her parents for his assistance.
In March 2009, Campbell allegedly told Victim 2 that she had to pay him an additional $10,000, later raised to $16,000, or she would have to work at one of his massage parlors from opening to closing seven days a week, the complaint said.
The complaint also said Campbell allegedly verbally abused and threatened Victim 2, telling her he had a gun, and forced her to engage in sexual activity.
Victim 2 began recording a series of conversations with Campbell and John between August and October 2009, including a meeting with John on Oct. 5, 2009, at which time she allegedly gave John $1,500 to pass along to Campbell.
"There may be additional charges and we will have to monitor the case," said Mt. Prospect Village Manager Michael Janonis. "As soon as we can get a better handle on this case we will make a final determination on whether or not we will pursue revoking the business license. We feel we don't need to wait for an ultimate decision in any criminal trial to proceed from a local standpoint."
Janonis said the salon's business license went into effect Aug. 1, 2008. John's detention hearing was scheduled for yesterday (Tuesday), while Campbell's hearing is scheduled for today (Wednesday) at 3 p.m. in federal court in Chicago. Both individuals were in custody after their arrest. Extortion conspiracy carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Massage parlor ordered to close
A Superior Court judge agreed with the city of Lake Forest to shut down a day spa, saying that it has a history of providing sex for pay, is a public nuisance and has violated city code and state laws, officials said today.
The judge also found that the way ownership changed were shams. Ownership of the spa was transferred several times within the family. The judge said he does not recognize them as valid changes in ownership
City officials today call their win in this lawsuit against Lake Forest Bodycentre significant and say it bodes well for the city's current efforts to clear out medical marijuana dispensaries now operating illegally in the city.
"This case is significant for the city on several levels," said Jeffrey Dunn, a partner with Best, Best & Krieger who led the litigation. "The judge's ruling underscores the city's right and obligation to close businesses that are in violation of the law, create a public nuisance or are prohibited by the city's municipal code. Whether it's illegal drug distribution or a sex-for-pay business they are subject to court order to close as they create a public nuisance."
The city has been told by judge to prepare the final order. The spa could be closed within a couple of weeks, said Dunn. The spa is located at 23331 El Toro Road, Suite 110. The hearing was on Friday in Orange County Superior Court with Judge David R. Chaffee.
Roger Jon Diamond, who represented Bodycentre and has defended a number of adult businesses, said the judge's ruling was oral and that it is not final. He added the spa is now a chiropractic center.
Diamond, who recently defended a woman accused of killing homeless in alleys in Los Angeles County, said he believes a prior court ruling where a judge ruled in favor of the Bodycentre and against its landlord's efforts to evict, should be considered in the city's case.
"The city attorney argued they were not bound by that case," Diamond said. "We argued the landlord and city were on the same team therefore they were bound by the case."
Diamond said he plans to appeal the case.
Lake Forest Bodycentre is not affiliated with Bodycentre Costa Mesa LLC, which owns and operates Bodycentre Day Spa, located at 23702-B El Toro Road in The Orchard shopping center, and remains fully operational and licensed by the city.
Lake Forest Bodycentre has been the site of numerous undercover investigations focused on suspicion of prostitution, lewd conduct and illicit behavior.
An undercover investigation in 2006 by Orange County Sheriff deputies found several violations, including solicitation for prostitution, massage without a license, resisting arrest, operating a house of ill-fame, and disqualifying conduct.
The investigation led to the arrest of a female employee of the parlor, who was charged and convicted of prostitution. Based on the prostitution allegations, city officials revoked owner Charlie Abujudeh's operating license in spring 2007.
Abujudeh immediately transferred ownership to his sister-in-law, Julie Ho, and according to sheriff's reports, prostitution continued while Ho operated the establishment.
On November 1, 2007, the city sued to close the business.
"Just like the Bodycentre, marijuana stores violate state law, create a public nuisance and are prohibited by the city's municipal code," said City Attorney Scott Smith. "We are encouraged that this legal victory underscores the validity of the city's claim against the marijuana vendors."
