Getting the perfect vacation in Israel is easy on the one hand, with so much to do and so many options to choose from, but often people can be overwhelmed by these options and end up missing the things that might interest them the most. Here are some pointers to consider when planning your trip to Israel
There are a huge range of Israel tours available. Some last for one day, others last for one or two weeks. You can go with a private Israel tour guide or take a group tour, and you can take tours tailored to your interests – if you are interested in the religion, culture, or in more adventurous things to do.
Selecting what to do in Israel is also crucially important.
Israel is a land crammed with amazing things to do. Israel is home to some of the most important and impressive religious sites in the world – for Jews, Christians and Muslims. Jerusalem is perhaps the holiest city in the world with sites for these three major faiths literally sitting inches from each other.
Israel also plays host to an incredible array of archaeological and historical sites which date from pretty well every historic empire imaginable. The Romans and Greeks, Babylonians and Crusaders, Ottomans and British were all here, among others, and each left their unique mark on the towns, cities, and archaeological sites which are found up and down the country.
The natural landscape of Israel is full of contrast, amazing when you consider that the country is the size of Wales or the state of New Jersey. In the south, the Negev Desert stretches across about half of the country’s total land area, whilst in the north the rolling hills of the Galilee are more like what you’d find in Europe with vineyards, flat plains, and mountains.
The diverse landscape gives way to a diverse selection of outdoor and adventure pursuits in Israel. For instance, in the Negev, take a jeep tour, or float in the saline waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. In the Galilee, explore the many hiking trails, or paraglide high above sites of Biblical valleys. In between, the Mediterranean Coastal Plain is full of bike trails, or head into the water itself and undertake one of the many water sport opportunities – surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, jetskiing, it’s all possible here…
And then there’s the food – Israel has some of the best restaurants in the world which fuse traditional Middle Eastern cuisine with flavours from across the globe brought by Jews who moved to the country over the past one hundred years. There’s also great wine, with vineyards across the country producing some of the most up-and-coming wines in the world. Many of these have visitor centers which tourists can visit and enjoy tasting sessions.
There are clearly lots of options for when you plan your Israel trip. The key, when planning your Israel travel experience is to take time to research as many options as possible so you create a trip which will not only be great, but which will be a trip you remember forever.
